Nigeria Wins 2nd Gold Medal in Paralympics

Abilities in Disabilities... Nigerian Ivory Nwokorie won the 2nd Gold Medal in women's 44kg Powerlifting in the on going Paralympic Games.

A statement on the Games website said Nwokorie lifted an incredible 109kg at the South Arena 3 at Excel.

It noted that she was delighted with her win, saying: ``'I'm very, very happy. I have made my country proud.''

The statement said that in spite of failing to improve on her first lift, it was to be more than enough to win her the gold, Nigeria's second for Powerlifting in two days.

Man Rapes 3 year Old Girl at Adeniji Adele

This incident happened yesterday afternoon at Adeniji Adele, Dolphin Estate, Phase 2. A little girl ran into a woman’s shop crying. The woman asked her why she was crying, but the little girl couldn’t really express herself. She just kept pointing at a particular direction, and crying. Then a few minutes later, the shop owner saw a man approaching her shop and calling on the girl to follow him. The woman asked the man who he was and why he was after the girl. The man probably realized the women wasn’t going to release the girl to him, so he tried to run. The woman raised an alarm immediately shouting ole ole, thinking he was a kidnapper, not knowing he had done something much worse.

Youths in the area thinking the man was a thief descended on him. The man kept saying he wasn’t a thief that the little girl was known to him. They turned to the girl and pressured her to tell them what the guy had done to her; the 3 year old told them that the man had taken her to the last floor of a 3 story building and hurt her. They checked the girl’s panties and saw blood all over her private area. The blood had even dropped to her legs but nobody noticed on time.

Federal Government Approves $11M For Condoms And Family Planning

The Director of Family Health in the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Bridget Okoeguale, stated this  during the 47th National Council Meeting of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, where Mr. Oladele Olaniyi succeeded Mrs. Lami Buba as President.

According to her, “last year, in order to reduce maternal mortality rate, the government proclaimed that reproductive health commodities and family planning commodities like condoms and implants to be made free.”

“So the government along with the partners made a forecast as to what we need in the country and contributed $3millio in 2011 through a Memorandum of Understanding which we implemented.”

On July 11 in London, there was a family planning summit organized by DFID and other partners to increase the commitment of governments all over the world to family planning.
