Konga launched in July 2012. We're just a few days shy of December, and Konga has already undergone at least 6 visual design overhauls. I'm getting giddy just from watching Konga change colours every months or so.
First, they looked like this.
That was before they launched. Apparently, they decided that look didn't have enough sizzle, so they jazzed the landing page up a bit.
It looked great, and we all lapped it up. The site launched, and everyone ooh-ed and aah-ed over the beautiful visual design...
...until it got out that the spectacular design wasn't very original. Actually, it looked a lot like this site. That caused quite a bit of a PR snafu on Twitter, but Konga masterfully took it in stride. Within minutes -- yes, minutes -- they'd jumped into their magic changing room. When they emerged, this is what they looked like.
The swift wardrobe trick smoothed the ruffles out of our collective feathers, and we went back to being good customers. But Konga couldn't put enough distance between itself and the embarrassing visual brand fail. So, in and out of the wardrobe they went again.
By now, most of us are past caring. Alas, however, Konga is already a certified e-commerce dandy, and appears hopelessly given to changing appearance with compulsive frequency. Here's the latest look. While you might notice that it's just the logo that appears to have changed, the changes are much more obvious on their social media profiles on Facebook and Twitter.
This latest look though, I don't know. Is it me, or does it look a little drab? Oh well. As long as they keep delivering my groceries on time, it's all the same to me.
In contrast, Jumia has changed their name only once -- just once, folks, when they abruptly mashed their two increasingly resonant e-commerce brands into one.
So hopefully, the identity konflict isn't kontagious.
